Rosa Perez Says "Chuc Mung Nam Mo" (Happy New Year) to San Jose!
San Jose, CA - Early morning rain did not dampen the spirits of the thousands of spectators who lined Market Street on Sunday, January 30th to celebrate the Vietnamese New Year. San Jose notables, including San Jose/Evergreen Community College Chancellor Rosa Perez braved threatening skies to usher in the Year of the Dog.
Chancellor Perez was accompanied, in a black classic convertible, by SJ/ECCD Director of Institutional Initiatives, Bayinaah Jones as well as San Jose City College Instructor of Ethnic Studies, Mai Le Ho. The parade also featured a group of students from the Evergreen Valley College Vietnamese Student Association, who proudly marched behind a banner bearing their group's name.

- Chancellor Perez noted the importance of honoring all people who make up our rich and vibrant community by supporting cultural knowledge and awareness.
The parade was the kickoff event of the 9th Annual Vietnamese Spring Festival, which featured Vietnamese arts and live performances by famous Vietnamese entertainers, martial art demonstrations children's carnival games and rides, live entertainment and food booths showcasing authentic Vietnamese cuisine and other multi-cultural fare. This was the first year that an SJ/ECCD Chancellor participated in the parade, but Chancellor Perez looks forward to many years of involvement yet to come!
