    NEW SJECCD EMPLOYEES COMMITTED TO PROMOTING STUDENT SUCCESS AND SOCIAL JUSTICE REPRESENTING THE COLLEGE COMMUNITY


  • SAN JOSÉ, CA—  San José/Evergreen Community College District (SJECCD) welcomes two new employees to our college community who are committed to student success and effective leadership.  Jeanine Hawk is the new Vice Chancellor of Administrative Services.   Hawk has a long history of community college experience and has spent a large part of her career leading the business and operations of the industry.  Her most recent position she held was that of Chief Business Officer for Santa Monica Community College District.  Before that, she spent five years as Vice President of Educational Resources and College
    Operations at De Anza College.  Her passion is fostering student success through public education.  Hawk says, "I am committed to teaching and learning and I believe that community colleges provide access to education that is critical to the continued vitality of this country."  Hawk plans to utilize her skills in finance and management to create a balanced approach to the budget. 

    "With the looming budget cuts, Jeanine Hawk’s leadership is critical as we look at creative ways to preserve our educational resources and programs," says Rosa G. Pérez, Chancellor, San José/Evergreen Community College District.

    Hawk holds an MBA and has years of private sector experience as well has having served as the Finance Director for the City of Medford, Oregon.   She replaces Ron Root, who is retiring after three years with SJECCD.

    Arturo Reyes Hernandez comes to San José City College with more than 23 years in California’s public education system from the elementary level to the college level.  He is
    the Vice President of Academic Affairs at San José City College.  Reyes Hernandez has been working at the California Community College Chancellor’s Office in Sacramento, holding leadership roles in Academic Affairs and Workforce Preparation and Economic Development.  He has focused his career on administrative leadership and bilingual education and has held a number of positions leading and directing student programs.   Reyes Hernandez says, "I welcome the opportunity to advance social justice and further educational equity, in an inclusive college culture shaped by a progressive, diverse, and dedicated faculty and staff, on behalf of all City College students and the broader community of San José." 

    "Arturo Reyes Hernandez is committed to students.  His experience working with families to ensure student success is an asset for SJECCD, as he pursues equity and social justice
     in the classroom," says Pérez.
