    Ron Lind

By day, Ron Lind is president of the United Food and Commercial Workers Local 428, Silicon Valley's largest private sector union for which he has worked since 1979.He also serves on the executive committee of the South Bay Labor Council. In his free time, he serves as president of the San José/Evergreen Community College District Governing Board. Lind represents the Milpitas and Berryessa areas of the college district. "It has been my goal to improve our presence in these areas," says Lind.

Lind first became interested in serving on the governing board when he taught labor studies classes at San José City College. "It's easy to make the connection-often, community colleges are the colleges of necessity for working families. We owe it to them to position our programs to where they rival those at four-year institutions," he says.

A Board member for five years, Lind has seen many changes within the SJECC District. "As budgets have declined, we try to do more with less. However, we're excited about our success in passing our recent bond measure and the continued opportunities that it brings as we upgrade our two campuses into beautiful student-friendly institutions that are fit for the twenty-first century," says Lind. Lind graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in history with a minor in political science from San José State University in 1978. He is a Senior Fellow of the American Leadership Forum, board member of the Role Model Program and has served as president of the Milpitas Kiwanis Club.

He has two grown daughters and lives in Milpitas with his wife Jenifer, and in his spare time enjoys golf, gardening and woodworking.
