  • Frequently Asked Questions

  • What does the hiring process entail?

Each opening that we have has its own screening committee. After the first review date has passed, the committee will begin reviewing the applications and determining who they would like to invite for interviews. This may take several weeks after the first review date has passed. If you are selected to interview, the screening committee will contact you. A letter will be sent to you once a candidate has been chosen and the position is filled.

How soon will I hear something regarding the status of my application?

When we receive your application, it goes through an initial screening process to ensure that the applicant meets the minimum qualifications of the position and that the application packet is complete. A postcard is then mailed to you to: (a) confirm receipt of your application, or (b) to let you know that you do not meet the minimum requirements of the position, or (c) to let you know that the position has already been filled. If your application packet is incomplete, we generally try to send you an email to let you know what you are missing. If an email address is not provided on the application, a postcard will be sent to you. The postcards are generally mailed out within 2 weeks of receiving your application. Once the screening committee starts reviewing the applications, they will contact you if they are interested in setting up an interview with you.
What does “the first review date” mean?

The first review date is the first possible date that the screening committee can begin reviewing applications for a position. It does not mean that they will begin reviewing them on that date. If we receive your application by the first review deadline, your application is complete and you meet the minimum qualifications, your application will be forwarded to the committee for review. If you submit your application after the first review date, even if your packet is complete and you meet the minimum qualifications, we cannot guarantee that your application will be forwarded. It may be several weeks after the first review date before the committee begins contacting individuals.

Can I still apply after the first review date has passed?

Yes, you can apply after the first review date, but your application will only be forwarded to the committee if they do not select someone from the pool of applicants who submitted applications before the first review date.

Can I fax in my application?

Yes, you can fax your application to 408-223-6341.

How do I know if a position is still open?

All of the positions listed on the website are still vacant. We update the site any time there is a change.

Do I need to include any other documents with my application?

Please check the “Application Requirements” on the job announcement to determine what needs to be included with the application. Many positions require additional materials such as, copies of transcripts or copies of your degree, resume, cover letter, and/or a copy of your driver’s license. You may also include any additional items that are not required, but may be of interest to the screening committee.

Can I submit my application on-line?

The application can be filled out on-line, but you must print it out and sign it before mailing, faxing, or bringing it to our office.

Where should I send my application?

The applications can be mailed to:
    San José/Evergreen Community College District
    Human Resources
    4750 San Felipe Road
    San José, CA 95135

    Where is your office located?

Directions from 101: Take the Yerba Buena exit. Go East on Yerba Buena. Continue for about 2 1⁄2 miles and then turn left onto San Felipe Road. Turn right onto Paseo de Arboles, the entrance into Evergreen Valley College. Take the first right to the District Office parking lot. For printable directions and a Mapquest map, click here.

What if my application packet is not complete?

You will be contacted either by a postcard or by email letting you know what your packet is missing. Incomplete application packets will not be forwarded to the screening committee. The application packet must be completed before it can be considered for any opening. If the first review date has passed by the time the application packet is completed, your application will only be forwarded to the committee if they do not select someone from the pool of applications received before the first review date.
